Sunday 18 June: Feast of Corpus Christi

“I am the Living Bread which has come down from heaven, says the Lord. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever” (John 6:51).

“Unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. He who eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood will have life to the fullest” (John 6:53-54). These words are the basic foundation on which the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, which we celebrate this Sunday, is firmly based. In the First reading, God sustains the lives of the Israelites in the desert by feeding them with ‘Manna’, which foreshadows the life-giving bread that Christ gives us in the Eucharist. In the Gospel, Christ reminds us that partaking of the Eucharist worthily, is a basic requirement for one to have eternal life.

As Christians we participate in the Body and Blood of Jesus through the Sacrament of the Eucharist, which is a Meal, Sacrifice and Real Presence of Christ in our lives. May the worthy reception of the Body and Blood of Christ not only bring us spiritual and material nourishment, but may it also open the floodgates of blessings, joy and peace in our lives and families. Happy Solemnity!

Parish information, faith news and mission

Fathers’ Day: Today we celebrate all the Fathers in the whole world and in a special way, we pray for all the Fathers in this Parish. May God continue to protect them and enable them to live up to their responsibilities in their various homes.

Second Collection: The second collection this week is for Day of Prayer for Human Life. This is the day in the Church’s life dedicated to celebrating the sacredness of life. The proceeds provide core funding for the Anscombe Bioethics Centre and to assist other life related activities supported by the Church. Next week our second collection will be for Peter’s Pence.

Corpus Christi Procession: All the boys and girls who received their first Holy Communion last weekend will lead the Corpus Christi procession on Sunday 18th June immediately after the 11am Mass. They are most welcome to come in their communion dresses. Those who have received their first Holy Communion in the previous years are also invited to join.

First Holy Communion Discs: Photos are available of all children who took their Holy Communion last week. We only have one disc for each day, so if you wish to borrow the disc to print off your child’s photo with Fr. Cyriacus then please contact the Parish Secretary. You will need to bring back the disc as soon as you have finished with it so it is available to other parents.

Bible Class Study: The next Bible Study class will be on Thursday 22nd June at 7.45pm. The theme for discussion is “Mary, the Ark of the New Covenant”.

Altar Servers’ Training: Altar Server training will be held on Saturday 24th June 2017 at 2pm. We invite young boys and girls who want to join this group to attend this training.

June Birthday Celebration: Prayers will be offered for Parishioners born in the month of June at all Masses next weekend, 24th & 25th June 2017. Cutting of birthday cake will follow after 9am and 11am Masses respectively.

Healing Mass: The next Mass of the sick will be held on Sunday 25th June at 3pm.

Celebration of Marriage: On the weekend of 1st & 2nd July, we shall celebrate a day for married couples. The Parish invites all couples to join in this special Mass. Couples will have the opportunity to renew their marriage vows at all weekend masses.

Table Sales: The Outreach Group will be organising a Table Sales on 2nd July 2017 after the 11am Mass. This is one of the ways through which this Group raises funds to support various charities and Parishioners who are in need.

Items for the Table Sales: We request Parishioners to help by donating any unwanted gifts/unwanted items in new or good conditions like CDs, DVDs, Bone China, Glasses, Vases, Tea sets, Children’s books, Gardening equipment, Handbags, Jewellery, Plants/seeds, toiletries and toys. A box is placed at the porch for the collection of these items. Thanking you in advance for your generosity.

Prayers for Widows and Widowers: On the weekend of the 8th & 9th July, we shall pray for the widows and widowers in the Parish at all the Masses.

EM & Readers Rotas: A new rota for July-December 2017 is now listed in the back of the porch. Copies have also been made available for you to take home. As always, if you are listed on a date you know you cannot attend, please make alternative arrangements with other members. We take this opportunity to thank Lilian Clarke who has managed the EM & Readers rotas in the past; Lilian will no longer be organising this and it will now be done by the Parish Secretary.

Children’s Liturgy Classes: As many of you know, we have wanted to set up Children’s Liturgy Classes to run alongside 11am Mass each Sunday. Sadly, as we do not have enough volunteers to run these classes we have taken the decision that we cannot provide them for our parish children at this time. Thank you to all those parishioners who did volunteer and worked alongside the Parish Secretary trying to set these up.

Parish day trip to Brighton: Our Parish day trip is now full and actually oversubscribed. A list of all those who have secured a place is in the porch. Money needs to be paid by this Sunday 18th June. If your money is not paid up by this date, your place will be offered to those on the waiting list. You can hand your money to Fr. Cyriacus or the Parish secretary.

Event for all Youth Ministers: If you are interested in youth ministry, are already involved in our parish or would simply like to find out more, you are warmly invited to attend a Cheese & Wine event at St James the Great Church in Petts Wood on Tuesday 27th June at 8pm. Take this opportunity to get to know other youth ministers in Bromley parishes, share your experiences and discover the programme of exciting activities and projects we have in store to engage young people in their faith for the coming year. To reserve your place, RSVP: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 20th June 2017.

Urgent Help Needed: We are still in desperate need of volunteers to join our cleaning team. Please contact Chris Meaney on 01689 816502 if you can help or to get more information.
