Baptism at Our Lady of the Crays Catholic Church

The day of our Baptism is the most important day of our life, because through it we become members of the Church and we receive the promise of eternal life.

Baptism of children up to the age of three

If parents wish to have their baby or young child baptised into the Church, at least one of you should be a baptised, practising Catholic.

To arrange a baptism for your child, please fill in a baptism application form, available to download (above) or from the Church porch. You then need to meet with Fr to discuss arrangements during our parish surgery - usually held weekly.

Please note that no baptisms take place during Lent.

Children of school age

Children who have begun school need to be prepared for the sacrament, as do their parents. How this will be done and the time it will take will depend on the age of the child.

Reception into full Communion with the Church as an adult

Adults who wish to be received into the Catholic Church embark on a course of instruction called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. This prepares them to take their place as adult members of the Church.

The course lasts several months with ceremonies to mark the stages of commitment. If candidates are not yet baptised, this generally happens at the Easter Vigil, when they also receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion.

For further information, please contact our Parish Priest, Fr Cyriacus Okafor.
